Understanding Ownership - directors, shareholders and related companies

It's vital to understand the people and companies linked to a company you're working with to help assess the risk of the relationship, and ensure any relationship is compliant.  The Ownership tab is specifically designed to help you do so more efficiently, without having to check lots of different sources.

Summary

For a quick understanding of the number of directors and shareholders, and the number of related companies, view the Summary section.

Directorships

The next sections gives information on Directorships at the company, to help you trace and understand any risk associated with these people.  As well as the average age and tenure of the current directors, you'll be able to quickly see if there are any disqualified directorships associated.   

Next, you'll see a full list of current and retired directors. along with their individual tenure, nationality, and number of directorships.  You can search, sort, and filter the information, as well as clicking through to the directors' individual DueDil pages and their LinkedIn profiles, so you can do further checks.  For more information on individual director checks, please visit the 'Director pages' page on the Knowledge Base.

Beneficial Owners

Companies are required to file information on individuals who have signficiant influence or control at the company, and this gives valuable insight into the stability and risk associated with the company.  The Ownership tab clearly lists any registered individuals with significant control.

Shareholders

The shareholders widget is an easy way to find out the people and entities with an interest in the company.  As well as the total number of shareholders and shares in the company, it lists the shareholders along with the amount and type of shares held.

Where the shareholders are registered directors of any UK or Irish company, or are registered companies, you can click through to each company to see more information.

Parent Companies

Designed to help you understand which other companies you might need to be aware of and investigate, the parent companies widget lists all companies above the company in question in their corporate structure, starting with the ultimate parent of the group.  

You'll straight away be able to see the country each company is based in, as well as their degree of separation from the company in question, and any major shareholders.  

You can click through to each company to see more information if it is based in the UK or Ireland.  You can easily add all parent companies to a list to keep track of any changes across the group.

Portfolio Companies

The Portfolio Companies section gives you information on any direct subsdiaries a company has.  You'll see the share of ownership the company has, as well as their share of the subsidiaries' net assets, their share type, and their status.

You can click through to each company to see more information if it is based in the UK or Ireland.  You can easily add all parent companies to a list to keep track of any changes across the group.

Related Companies

Adding another layer of connections that you might need to be aware of, the related companies widget shows you companies that we've identified as being potentially connected through similarities rather than share ownership.

These can be co-directors, shared addresses, name similarity and more.  We give a confidence rating to show how likely the connection is to be valid, and you can click through to the individual companies to investigate further.
